Although affected by the Covid-19 disease, the number of applications processed in the first 5 months of 2020 increased by 0.6% over the same period in 2019; the number of patents granted increased by 18.1%, of which the number of patents increased by 56.7%.
In the morning of June 19, the Institute of Intellectual Property Science VIPRI (Ministry of Science and Technology) and Vietnam Academy of Agricultural Sciences VAAS (Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development) signed a cooperation agreement on intellectual property and opened the information exploitation station of industrial property IPPlatform located at the library of VAAS.
The use of the trademark of Salanganes'Nest, dried pineapple fish and Can Gioi sandy mango increases the prestige, contributes to the protection and promotion of trademarks for typical products of the district.
On June 11, 2020, Director Dinh Huu Phi had a call with Mr. Daren Tang, who was officially appointed by the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) General Assembly to be the General Director of WIPO for the term of 2020 - 2026 on 8/5/2020.
The new General Director of WIPO said that Vietnam's promulgation of a National IP Strategy would be a good example for many countries to learn from experiences.
Recently, Department of Science and Technology, Ho Chi Minh City University of Technology (HUTECH) organized a training course "Awareness raising on intellectual property at universities" with experts from the National Office of Intellectual Property of Vietnam.
On May 11, 2020, the National Office of Intellectual Property of Vietnam issued Decision No. 1571 / QD-SHTT on the grant of certificate of registration of geographical indications No. 00080 for Cai Mon durian. Ben Tre Department of Science and Technology is the organization managing this geographical indication.
Vietnam - EU Free Trade Agreement (EVFTA) has just been approved, according to economist, PhD. Nguyen Tri Hieu, this is a good psychological event in the context of the global economy, including Vietnam and the EU, greatly affected by the Covid-19 epidemic. The agreement will open new markets for Vietnamese businesses, creating psychological optimism, especially this is a milestone marking Vietnam's position in global geo-political relations.
According to the Ministry of Science and Technology, intellectual property activities in localities have brought about practical effects. Many organizations, businesses and business households are interested in trademark registration and industrial property rights. So far, 36,021 units of industrial property rights have been filed; 3,053 protection certificates were granted.
One of the priority directions to enhance the competitiveness of Vietnam's agriculture, forestry, fisheries and handicraft products is to build, register and protect intellectual property rights for these types of products.
