The process of international economic integration of Vietnam has been increasingly strong, including in depth and breadth, in the process, the production and trading of local specialties has achieved great results,  contributing to improving income for people in special areas. Among the specialties are the products, such as coffee, rice, tea, pepper, cocoa, cashew nuts, aquatic products and village products.

However, in the context that Vietnam has signed new-generation Free Trade Agreements, such as the Comprehensive and Progressive Agreement for Trans-Pacific Partnership (CPTPP), the Free Trade Agreement with the European Union (EVFTA) the subsidy and protection measures of agricultural and industrial extension of the State will be gradually restricted, products, including specialties of Vietnam will no longer have the advantage of price, thus will be fiercely competitive not only in export markets but also in the domestic market.

Therefore, we need to develop a strategy to improve the competitiveness of agriculture, forestry, fisheries, handicraft products and supporting policies. One of the priority directions to enhance the competitiveness of Vietnam's agriculture, forestry, fisheries and handicraft products is to build, register and protect intellectual property rights (IP) for all kinds of the products.
