Vietnam - Japan: Actively protect intellectual property rights
The Government of Japan since 2012 has collaborated with the Government and functional departments of Vietnam to organize activities against fake goods, and protection of intellectual property rights (IP).


Mr. Tadashi Kitanaka - Deputy Head of Intellectual Property Department - Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry of Japan (METI) answered trade and industry newspaper’s reporter around this issue.

How do you assess activities against counterfeiting goods and IPR protection in Vietnam over the past time?

In the past time, customs authorities have always focused on protecting IP rights, preventing fake goods across the border, this is one of the positive measures to stabilize the market economy, protect production development, domestic business and attract foreign investment.

Regarding the enforcement of counterfeit goods, IP violation, agencies such as Vietnam's customs have actively supported the protection of the interests of enterprises.

The Government of Japan from 2012 to now has collaborated with the Government of Vietnam to organize anti-counterfeiting activities to help authorities understand more deeply to protect enterprises.

Organize these specialized activities near the border areas of Lang Son and Lao Cai to help functional agencies execute at the border gate in the most effective way.

In addition, the Government of Japan, the customs agency also connected, implemented exchange programs, learned experiences with relevant Vietnamese authorities to capture information and share experiences about anti- counterfeiting goods, IP violation.
