The Ministry of Industry and Trade proposes to supplement the planning of wind power projects
The Ministry of Industry and Trade has just issued Document No. 1931 / BCT-DL dated March 19, 2020 to the Prime Minister for consideration and supplementation of planning of wind power projects.

In this document, the Ministry of Industry and Trade updated the situation of additional planning and proposed additional planning of wind power projects.

Regarding wind power projects that have been added to the planning and put into operation: the total capacity of wind power projects approved in the electricity development plan is about 4,800 MW, expected to be operated in the period to 2021, mainly in the Southwest and South Central regions.

However, of the 4,800 MW that has been added to the plan, up to now, only nine wind power projects have been put into operation with a capacity of 350 MW.

Regarding projects that are requesting for additional planning: as of March 15, 2020, in addition to projects that have been supplemented with planning, the Ministry of Industry and Trade has received proposals from the provincial People's Committees totaling nearly 250 wind power projects, with a total capacity of about 45,000 MW, is divided by region / geographic area as follows:

North Central Coast (provinces that require supplementing wind power are Ha Tinh, Quang Binh, Quang Tri): the total number of projects proposed by the Provincial People's Committee to supplement the planning is 51 projects with a total capacity of 2,919 MW.

The South Central Coast region (the provinces that require additional wind power are Binh Dinh, Phu Yen, Ninh Thuan, Binh Thuan): the total number of projects proposed by the provincial People's Committees to supplement the planning is 10 projects, total capacity of 4,193 MW (except for the offshore project Thang Long Wind, there will be 793 MW).

The Central Highlands region (the provinces that require the addition of wind power are Kon Tum, Gia Lai, Dak Lak, Dak Nong, Lam Dong): the total number of projects proposed by the provincial People's Committees to supplement the planning is 91 projects, total capacity 11,733.8 MW.

The Southeast region (the province that has proposed to supplement the wind power is Ba Ria - Vung Tau): the total number of projects proposed by the provincial People's Committees to supplement the planning is 2 projects with a total capacity of 602.6 MW.

Southwestern region (provinces that require additional wind power are Tien Giang, Ben Tre, Tra Vinh, Hau Giang, Soc Trang, Bac Lieu, Ca Mau): the total number of projects proposed by the provincial People's Committees, additional planning is 94 projects, total capacity of 25,541 MW.

According to calculations by the Institute of Energy, the wind power capacity needs to supplement the plan until 2025 in the base plan is about 6,030 MW, in the high case is 11,630 MW.

The total added wind power planning is 4,800 MW. Therefore, the wind power capacity until 2025 needs to add about 1,230 MW in the base case and 6,830 MW in the high option.
