Supporting children in Dong Thap and Tien Giang to prevent and avoid disasters
To enhance prevention and adaption abilities to climate change for children and community from February 2013 so far, Prudence Foundation supported 197,000 USD and Save the Children supported 12,000 children of 24 Primary schools in two provinces, such as Dong Thap and Tien Giang through project “Disaster risk reduction.”

Through collaboration with the agencies and local, Save the Children organized training courses on disaster risk reduction for teachers and pupils. Thereby, they got knowledge and skills to build risk prevention plans for the school. At the same time, pupils at schools have been trained to participate in response shows when disasters occur. The pupils were also equipped with protective tools, such as life jackets, waterproof book bags. They wore the lifebuoys and participated in swimming training courses organized by the project.

The project proposed to teach children practical ways to overcome natural disasters and survive through storms, tropical floods. National Director of Save the Children, Mr. Gunnar Andersen said: "Save the Children has over 20 years work experiences in emergency relief and prevention of natural disasters in Vietnam. When disasters occur, children are always the most vulnerable subjects. Therefore, Save the Children works to ensure children to be safe and protected."
