Ben Tre: Adapt climate change to create a long-term development platform
On July 20, Mr. Nguyen Van Binh, Member of the Politburo, Secretary of the Party Central Committee, Head of Central Economic Committee, had a meeting with the Standing Committee of Ben Tre Provincial Party Committee on the implementation of Directive No. 35-CT / TW and comments on the draft document of the 11th Ben Tre Provincial Party Congress in the term of 2020-2025.

Speaking at the conference, Mr. Nguyen Van Binh noted and highly appreciated the organization of implementation and the achieved results in the implementation of Directive 35 of Ben Tre Provincial Party Committee. He proposed to evaluate and draw experiences from the preparation and organization of grassroots level conferences and district-level congresses to point out and promote the advantages and overcome the limitations in the preparation process and organizing the upper level grassroots congress and the provincial Party Congress; successfully organize district congresses according to the contents, schedule and requirements, and proceed to successfully organize the Ben Tre Provincial Party Congress in the term of 2020-2025.

According to Head of Central Economic Committee Nguyen Van Binh, with a large proportion of agriculture in GDP and a concentrated population in agriculture, Ben Tre needs to properly assess and respect the practice to have a gradual development plan. In the immediate future, it is necessary to pay attention to agricultural development to address rural life and labor. Due to the impacts of climate change, long-term radical solutions are needed to serve the daily life and production of people. Reviewing the rice plant land planning to convert to other high value-added crops and livestock, adapting to the saline intrusion to create a relatively large area as a basis for developing commodity production. Proposing the application of science and technology to process raw materials from coconut trees into eco-friendly bags, packaging to maximize benefits.

In addition, it is necessary to develop the processing industry associated with logistics in agriculture to deepen processing of agricultural products; research and develop labor-intensive industries but without affecting the environment to help shift the labor structure from agriculture to industries. The province should direct coordination, research and development of renewable energy, prioritize wind power to limit land use, ensure stability as well as environmental issues. It is necessary to increase investment in traffic connection along the direction of prioritizing important roads, which are common for the whole region.
