Mekong Delta developed climate change adaptation planning
The Ministry of Construction has just announced the decision to adjust the construction planning of the Mekong Delta (Mekong Delta) by 2030 with a vision to 2050 for 13 provinces and cities in the Mekong Delta.


Development goals of the Mekong Delta in the direction of green growth, sustainability and adaptation to climate change; it plays an important role in the country and in Southeast Asia region.

The scope of regulation covers the entire administrative boundaries of Can Tho City and 12 provinces of the Mekong Delta, with a total area of ​​over 40,600 square kilometers.

The area is developed according to the model of multi-center with medium scale on the basis of the formation of six agro-ecological zones, including Dong Thap Muoi, Long Xuyen Quadrangle, along Tien River - Hau River, West Hau River, Ca Mau peninsula and East coast; Secondly, it is divided into three specific sub-zones in the context of climate change: deep sub-zones (calculations for fresh water storage, seasonal flooded areas, limited expansion and large-scale city development); The delta sub-region (agricultural diversity development and intensive; this area is shallow so it is necessary to save land in urban construction, urban development in the form of compressed city area, flood control) and coastal and island sub-areas (affected by salinity intrusion, it is necessary to shift agricultural production, sustainable aquaculture, associated with mangrove plantation, restore forest ecosystem in Ca Mau Peninsula.)

Regional Center for agricultural and aquatic product processing and energy in Can Tho city with a total area of ​​1,500 - 1,800ha, including industrial parks in Tra Noc, O Mon and Thot Not,  Can Tho City has the role of a center for trade, health, education, culture, tourism, processing industry and logistics center of the region.

The energy centers, seafood processing industry with the scale of about 2,000-2,400ha distributed mainly in Ca Mau, Tra Vinh, Soc Trang, Kien Giang and Bac Lieu.
