Can Tho: Strengthened coexistence solutions with climate change
According to scientists, Can Tho City is one of the localities heavily affected by climate change, therefore, to overcome riverbank and canal erosion with project works (permanent embankments) and non-construction works (bio-embankments) are the most effective solutions for river bank protection, urban development, creating solid ground for people to exploit their business locations.

In over the past years, Can Tho city has implemented the project "Plan of erosion prevention of rivers and canals in Can Tho city", with the main solutions, such as consolidating the current situation, applying solutions preventing, minimizing the extent of damage caused by landslides; To invest in the construction of anti-landslide embankment works, relocate people living along the riverside into stable land areas and at the same time embellish urban centers continuously until 2025 and beyond.

The plan strives for 80% of households living along the river to stabilize their living space by the year 2050, the city will no longer have a river bank, to return the green status, safety and response to climate change at rivers, canals, canals. The scheme includes 29 works to build anti-erosion bank embankments in the period up to 2030 on rivers, canals in Can Tho city. The total length of these works is over 56km, with a total cost of over 2,030 billion VND. Including works funded by ODA, fund of international organizations to respond to climate change.
