Can Tho: Expanded waste classification at source
At the end of August, 2017, Can Tho City Department of Construction issued Plan No. 2943 / KH-SXD on the collection and classification of solid household wastes in Can Tho city.

Accordingly, the participants in the pilot implementation of the plan are all individuals, households and organizations in Tra Noc ward of Binh Thuy district, Le Binh ward of Cai Rang district and the whole Ninh Kieu district to classify solid household wastes.

Implementing the plan, from September 2017 to the end of March 2018, the wards carried out propaganda and began to classify rubbishes soon after the plan is issued. After each week, the localities report to evaluate the results of implementation and continue propaganda, guide households, units to classify rubbishes as required. From March 2018 onward, the classification of solid household wastes has been expanded to all districts of Ninh Kieu, Binh Thuy, Cai Rang.

Through inspection, professional units assess households and units located in the localities to pilot the collection and classification of solid household waste to meet the requirements. This creates a strong change, forming the habit of waste classification in each individual or organization; Create a sense of self-discipline in the classification of waste at the source as soon as it arises.

Mr. Nguyen Tan Duoc, Director of Can Tho City Department of Construction, said that the city strives for the end of 2018 and from 2019 onwards will complete the basic treatment of solid wastes arising daily not in the form of burial as present.
