Inauguration of the rain gauge station at the only ancient astronomical monument in Vietnam
In the afternoon of June 26, the Steering Committee for Disaster Prevention and Search and Rescue in Thua Thien-Hue Province coordinated with Hue Monuments Conservation Center, Water Resources Development and Investment Joint Stock Company (Watec) to inaugurate the system of automatic rain measuring device at the relics of Quan Tuong Dai.

The Quan Tuong Dai relic in the Nguyen Dynasty is under the management of Kham Thien Giam - an agency specializing in monitoring astronomical phenomena established under Gia Long and organized under the reign of Minh Mang.

This ancient observatory overlooks the Huong River and faces the southern capital of Hue. The common weather phenomena such as rain, sun, wind and unusual phenomena such as drought, flood were recorded from here and reported to the king in order to have a plan to deal with the court and the people.

In order to promote the value of the Quan Tuong Dai relic, the only remaining ancient observatory in Vietnam, the Office of the Provincial Steering Committee for Disaster Prevention and Search and Rescue and Watec Company together with related units, such as the Department of Culture and Sports, Hue Monuments Conservation Center, the Provincial Meteorological and Hydrometeorological Station have been actively involved, jointly organized research, design, and installation of suitable equipment with space without breaking the monument landscape. So far, the project has been completed and put into use to provide automatic rain measurement information in service of natural disaster prevention for buildings, monuments and in Hue city.

Quan Tuong Dai automatic rain gauge station and surveillance camera system to protect the relics are sponsored by Watec Company with an installation value of 80 million VND. This is a meaningful gift that the company supports for Thua Thien-Hue province.
