Need to promote development of e-government
Dr. Nguyen Quang Trung, head of the management team at RMIT Vietnam University, and Mr. Tran Pham Khanh Toan, PhD student at Ho Chi Minh City Open University, analyzed the main benefits of implementing e-government in Viet Nam.

Dr. Nguyen Quang Trung said that Vietnamese policy makers can refer to the successful e-government model of some other Asian countries such as Korea, Singapore and Malaysia. Early and consistent efforts in building e-government have been contributing to improving the business environment in these countries. That is why Korea and Singapore constantly keep leading the business environment rankings.

Similarly, at the local level, the implementation of e-government is expected to boost the competitiveness of provinces and cities.

Vietnam's efforts in establishing and implementing e-Government in the recent years have been highly appreciated by experts and people. Some of the major recent projects include the Government information and meeting system (E-Cabinet) launched in June 2019, and the National Public Service Portal in December 2019.

However, according to Dr. Trung, in order to create a competitive advantage and improve the business environment in Vietnam, authorities at all levels need to make stronger and more thorough efforts, including investing more resources for developing the electronic Government. Experiences in other countries shows that the groups of factors that create e-government success include governance capacity, information technology infrastructure and human resources, and socio-economic characteristics.

Perhaps the unfinished efforts to implement e-government initiatives in the early 2000s have discouraged many leaders. However, this is an important task, requiring high concentration if Vietnam wants to achieve its goal of becoming a prosperous, creative and fair country, and especially when the country is in urgent need of solutions to stimulate economic development in the current pandemic.

In this context, the successful building of e-government should be considered a top priority, because the implementation of e-government well before improvements in other areas comes quickly, contributing to saving resources for society and increasing the competitiveness of the economy.
