IoT seawater measuring station despite the first weather in Vietnam
The first water quality monitoring technology application project in aquaculture is being implemented in Phu Yen.


The research group of the Faculty of Computer Science - Engineering (Ho Chi Minh City Polytechnic University), the University of Technology Sydney (UTS) and the University of Technology, Hanoi National University deployed a sea environment monitoring station based on the first IoT technology in Phu Yen province.

This platform marks an important milestone in the UTS Rapido Vietnam project, the goal is to apply technology to develop a water quality monitoring system for aquaculture across the country, thereby building communities of sustainable development in the Red River Delta, coastal aquaculture areas.

Measure seawater despite thunderstorms

It is installed at Xuan Dai Bay, Song Cau Town, Phu Yen Province, the monitoring station uses the most advanced technologies and designs in the field of robots, Internet of Things (IoT), big data analysis and mechatronics.

The station provides monitoring data directly from the marine environment with a frequency of 5 minutes, processing delay is 0.5 seconds. Monitoring indicators include temperature, pH, dissolved oxygen content, salinity and water transparency.

Assoc.Prof. Dr. Pham Tran Vu, Head of the Faculty of Computer Science and Engineering, Ho Chi Minh City Polytechnic University, added: “The system is designed to withstand tropical storms and harsh conditions of the marine environment.”

Sydney University of Technology currently has many research programs and technology exchanges with universities in Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam Academy of Science and Technology (VAST). Some projects can be mentioned as arsenic removal in water by technology, monitoring and preventing saline intrusion and etc.
