Cleaning shrimp pond waste water with RAF technology
The recirculating aquaculture system (RAS) can treat wastewater standards for shrimp ponds, helping to increase productivity, shrimp quality, and reduce water exchange time.

Shrimp farming generates a lot of wastes

At the workshop "Waste water treatment in aquaculture" organized by Center for Information, Statistics, Science and Technology, Department of Science and Technology of Ho Chi Minh City in the morning of August 28. Assoc. Prof. Dr. Pham Ngoc Tuan, Head of Digital Control and System Engineering Laboratory, Polytechnic University, Vietnam National University, Ho Chi Minh City national University said, recent statistics show that Vietnam is ranked second in the world in shrimp exports.

It is estimated that each ton of shrimp cultivated successfully will generate 30kg of Nitrogen, 3.7kg of Phosphorus, 4.8kg of Ammonia (in shrimp cultivation water). In addition, shrimp farming also generates BOD, COD into water environment.

FAO estimates that by 2030, up to 40% of Europe's shrimp production into China will use the RAS model.

After testing the RAS system on an area of 1,000 square meters including 9 shrimp tanks (each 9 meters in diameter), shrimp production reached 150 kg / tank / crop with the form of pruning after 60 cultivation days, 550 kg / tank / crop with harvest after 90 days. The total harvest for 9 tanks in a year with more than 3 crops is more than 22 tons of shrimp.
